Consider yourselves lucky I didn’t start this update with a Bon Jovi “Living on a Prayer” joke as we reached the half way mark of fantasy camp. You can tell we’re starting to wind down as people are already talking about what the plans are next year (which I give my honest thoughts on in the video below). Through all the autograph signings and other activities today it did hit me that I got to be a part of an "historic” Camp—it’s 20th—that is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of the D’Backs work championship. I’ve said ti before and I’ll say it again, I’m impressed at how an organization so young is able to make, and preserve its history. It’s great.
Today we played one game and my offensive woes continued (0-3 K, L5, L3), but the last line drive felt really good. Still embarrassing as hell to strike out at soft toss, and I’m starting to hear the snickers from the team, but the last two hits give me hope for redemption today. Doubleheader for us tomorrow, (and possibly a third if we make the championship). Here’s today’s update:
Night Three 11/4
Post scripts: At dinner, two of my teammates fought over picking up the check with one of them winning out. While it was a fabulous gesture, I always feel a bit guilty getting that second (or third) round when somebody else pays. Like, let me cover my own vices, people!
Also, really feeling the soreness now. I tweaked my groin day one, and I’ve been nursing that one all week. But now my right shoulder (the “lead” shoulder I use when I swing as a lefty) is a bit sore too.
Lastly, there is being in shape, and there’s baseball shape. I had a back injury going into camp that I was nursing. And while that was pretty much healed (thank you Lord!) I didn’t really get the baseball drills-centric workouts I would’ve needed to really be in peak form. Everyone is pretty much struggling now though, so I don’t feel too bad about it, ha.
