It’s been a wild week in general, fam. Between the US Presidential Election, Manchester City’s Freefall, and Pope Francis becoming a meme because he used “#Saints” on Twitter/X for Saints Day while the hashtag actually refers to the New Orleans Saints Football team (no, seriously),
it’s safe to say there’s a lot going on.
That said, the Professional Women’s Hockey League, or PWHL, made news this week for finally releasing the uniforms for their teams in their upcoming season. If you haven’t been following the league this is a big story because last season, there was no team to establish identities for all of the teams, so squads just played as their city (e.g. PWHL New York, PWHL Boston etc.). A couple of months ago, we got team names and logos:
That is the Boston Fleet, Minnesota Flash, Montreal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge, and the Toronto Scepters. And even though the Charge logo looks like Knuckles from the Sonic Games doing a spin-dash and the Scepters looks like Taylor Swift’s Cheerleader Uniform logo:

There are some good identities there. The Sirens look solid, but my money is on Montreal. That’s a logo and identity I’d base a whole fashion line around, but that’s just one guy’s opinion. The uniforms and branding puts PWHL one step towards boarder legitimacy. Not to say it wasn’t legit before, but just having the generic names of cities with no team nicknames just made things feel incomplete.
Something’s missing, nah mean?
With the second season just a few weeks away, you can image there’s some bubbling excitement regarding the league’s prospects. There’s more eyes on women’s sports than ever before, coupled with a growing appetite for both hockey and for streaming networks to backfill their live sports slates as well. Not to mention, the PWHL is pretty darn good:
What do you think? Can you spot me some cash for that Victoire jersey, or…?
